FAMILY PICNIC 1998
Saturday, July 19, 1998 The Sunrise Resort in Moodus, CT once again hosted our popular Local 571 family Picnic. Approximately 550 of our members, former members, their relatives and guests came to relax and enjoy a pleasant summer's day. For some, it offered a chance to sample resort life - something they wouldn't ordinarily do. Others came ready to make use of the many features and activities offered by the facility.
There was something for everyone according to whatever you chose to do: swimming, ball-playing, horseshoes, shuffleboard, strolling, river sports, children's games, pony rides, and much more. If eating, chatting and relaxing in the shade was your preference, you only needed to pick your spot.
A raffle, customarily held in the barbecue area, rewarded lucky ticket holders with some cool prizes. Steve Carson won a 20" TV and Rory Olsen won a gas grill. Paul Banner took home a microwave oven, and Delores Capozza, wife of retiree Rico Capozza, received a $50.00 gift certificate to the Groton Inn & Suites. The shop-vac went to Albert Spencer and an Igloo cooler was the reward for winners Mark Renshaw and Charlie Granville. Mike Cahoon and "Zeke" Zeleznicky walked off with $25 gift certificates to the Groton Inn & Suites. And "The Legend of Electric Boat" books were won by Peter Gabiga, Peggy Bray, and Deip Nguyen (again!). In addition, 11 baseballs were given out.
The union's family picnic gives our members a chance to get together, spend some time with our families and friends and have FUN! Our thanks goes to the union officers and members who put it all together for us and made it happen. See you next year! |
