UAW Local 571 sponsored its fifth annual golf tournament on Saturday, September 26, 1998 at the Cedar Ridge Golf Course in East Lyme, CT. The tournament was well-supported with approximately 200 players and volunteers. It was a super day with temperatures reaching into the high 70's under sunny skies. In the morning, prior to the teams' respective tee times, players enjoyed coffee, juice and donuts and were greeted by President Mel Olsson and volunteer Joanne Basile, who presented each golfer with a MDA-UAW submarine logo tee shirt. As in past tournaments, Joanne's services in getting team photos, adding scorecards, posting scores on our huge union leader board and organizing the raffle and prizes were greatly appreciated.
While on the course, golfers were greeted by committee members distributing cold sodas via golf cart. After completion of 18 holes of golf, members enjoyed a cookout with our chefs, Bob SanJuan and Dave Bliven.
Upon conclusion of the tournament, plaques and trophies were handed out and a raffle was held with winners receiving gift certificates and prizes. It was a wonderful day and a good time for all who came.
On behalf of the Tournament Committee, we would like to thank all the members who participated in the event along with volunteers Joanne Basile, Art Dewolf, Scott Riccitelli, Al Clarke, Dave Bliven, Bob SanJuan, Bill Larkin, Pete Johnson, John Worobey, Joe Harcut, Mel Olsson and George Mackin who did a great job organizing, setting up, cooking or cleaning up to make the tournament such a huge success. |
